Off the Record noted this from a homily by Archbishop Weakland.
"Oh ... that's ... that's Jewish. That's very Jewish. Did you read the first reading where it says that mothers take care of their sons and it doesn't even mention daughters? That 'Jewish mother' thing goes way, way back!"

As to the Holy Family, I've been told there is a competing theory that they were Irish, since the son lived at home until he was thirty and his mother thought he was God.

In furtherance of the Irish theory, note that JC never married.

Now, now... Let's get the WHOLE Irish thing right, OK? Here's how it goes:

It's clear that Jesus was Irish because:

• He never married,
• He always hung out with a bunch of guys,
• He was always telling stories,
• He loved green pastures,
• He lived with his parents until he was 30,
• He never held a steady job, and
• His last request was for drink.

I can say these things because I'm Irish. My grandmother spoke Irish. I can speak Irish. Cut me, and I bleed green. Anybody else tries saying these things about the Irish and I say they're bloody bigots! Now, carry on. And, slainté!

Oh yeah,... A couple more things:

• Yes, His mother thought he was God, and
• She wanted Him to be a priest.

There. I think that's all of it. Sorry I missed these the first time round; I should know better than to post after 11 Guinnesses. Next time I'll know better.

I'm not "anaonymous." That was me in the comment above. I've switched to Jameson, which was probably unwise and the cause of my hitting the "anonymous" button when posting the above. Thank you for your forebearance. Now... go make fun of the Germans or something.

As a compromise, you could drink both and post as "O'nonymous".

Brilliant idea, Terrence! ...and that's the moniker I'll use from now on. You must have some Irish blood coursing through those veins, God bless ya!
